I know many of us, including myself, have prayed or are in agreement with someone and are now standing in faith for the manifestation of the promise. What do believers do between believing you receive the promise of God and the manifestation of God’s promises? Many times, when there are not immediate results, we grow weary in waiting for the full manifestation and eventually give up. Many also begin to think their healing must not have been God’s will because they did not see an answer. And here’s a big one, when we don’t see the manifestation we become critical and begin the process of blaming ourselves and looking at our own righteousness, goodness and performance as the basis for receiving, or not receiving from God. We can never succeed if we get caught up in the blame game. We cannot blame God nor ourselves and expect to receive. God never condemns, Romans 8:1 is very clear, “There is now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.” If you are feeling condemnation, it is not God. I will not be covering how to pray in this discussion, there are many good teachings on that subject already.
My focus particularly will be on physical healing, since so many of us are currently standing for restoration in our bodies. First, we must guard against approaching the subject of receiving from God as a formula to follow, rather than a continued intimate relationship with our creator, Father God, our Lord and Savior Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I know many want quick answers, but this topic is vast and it takes time to fully cover it. Please hang in there.
As we move forward, it is important to remember, I don’t have all the answers, I am seeking God’s wisdom just as you are. I am also not a fan of lists, but we will use lists and outlines to use as guidelines to receive. Holy Spirit has been sent to help us. Therefore, we must be led by the Holy Spirit and allow Him to direct our paths. (We will discuss this further in more depth at a later time.) Also, the Word of God must be the basis for anything we believe or do. Someone else’s experience, good or bad, cannot be the basis for our beliefs. I have chosen to make the Word of God final authority in my life and I encourage you to make the same decision in your lives. One last point before we move on it is important to understand which covenant we are currently living and operating under. Jesus fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17) and the Old Covenant became obsolete and done away with (Hebrews 8:13). We now live under a New Covenant of grace and faith, ratified in the blood of Christ (Jeremiah 31:34 & Hebrews 9:15).
I could just give a list of things to do, but I feel prompted by the Spirit to first begin with the four foundational truths of healing to lay a foundation for our discussion. So again, please hang in there.
Jesus speaks of the importance of laying a foundation to enable us to overcome in every area of our lives Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Emphasis added by the writer.)
A mature believer is one who has laid a foundation based solely on the Word of God. Jesus instructed us in how to lay this foundation in the above verses. The foundation is established by hearing the words of God, making them your core beliefs and putting them into practice in every area of your life. Another word for founded is fixed. In other words, that thing is not going anywhere. It is fixed, or it has been cemented in place and nothing can budge it. Neither hell or high water can deter you or change your mindset concerning if the Word of God is true or not. Then what is our faith in? Our faith is not in us, our own abilities, nor in someone else’s abilities or even faith in our faith. Faith is in what Jesus said in Mark 11:22, “Have faith in God.”
Now let’s look at the four foundational truths of healing. They are: 1. It is always God’s will to heal (Matt. 8:2,3) 2. God has already done everything necessary, in Christ, to secure your healing (1 Peter 2:24) 3. You have a legal right to healing (Gal. 3:13) 4. You are healed by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8,9)
As believers, we must establish these core beliefs and seal them once and for all in our hearts. First, there never should be a question in our minds if it is God’s will to heal or not. Make it personal, it is always God’s will to heal me every time according to His Word.
Number two, there is nothing that needs to be done, by God or ourselves to bring about the manifestation of healing. It is already done, you already have it. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath [past tense] blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (brackets added by the writer). You can refer back to my previous post on Victory Over This World.
Third, Jesus bought and paid for our healing in His death, burial and resurrection. Galatians 3:13-14 says, “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.’ Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.” (See Heb. 8:6; 12:24; 13:20; Matt. 8:17; and 1 Peter 2:24)
And fourth, you are healed by grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” The word “saved” in Greek is “Sozo.” It means to save, heal, make whole and to deliver. So you can say by grace you are healed or made whole through faith. We are not saved or healed by grace alone. And we are not healed and made whole through faith alone. It takes both grace and faith working together. Grace is God’s part and faith is our part. Grace is everything that was freely provided to us by God through Christ. Let’s look at 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who has called us by His own glory and excellence…” Faith is how we receive His provision in our lives. Faith is a receiver of God’s grace. Mark 11:23 says, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.” What are the things spoken about in verse 23? They are things God provided by grace for us through Christ. That is why we can believe we receive, they have already been granted us.
Let’s look at Ephesians 2:8-9, again in the New Living Testament. “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
We have to fix this truth in our hearts. Salvation or healing is not a reward for the good things we do, it is a gift and a gift must be received through faith.
How do we deposit these truths into our hearts? Through revelation knowledge and meditation. If you are standing for a manifestation of healing in your life, I encourage you to take some time daily and meditate on these scriptures. I will close today with this verse.
Proverbs 22:17-19 AMPC “Listen (consent and submit) to the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge; For it will be pleasant if you keep them in your mind [believing them]; your lips will be accustomed to [confessing] them. So that your trust (belief, reliance, support, and confidence) may be in the Lord, I have made known these things to you today, even to you.”
