Luke 13:14-16 KJV
And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
I don’t want to spend a lot of time on this thought, but in the midst of a great miracle we see the synagogue leader become displeased with Jesus and he lectures the Son of God, the Messiah. He tries to use the Word of God to condemn and discourage the people from receiving. There are many in our day who do not believe it is God’s will for everyone to be healed. There are those who say that miracles, signs and wonders ended at some unknown point in history. They proudly say, “God does not perform miracles anymore.”
The only problem with that argument is the Word of God does not bear it out. Thank God for the Word of God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The word says, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. I think that covers every time frame from the past to the future. God’s name is Jehovah Rapha, “The Lord Our Healer.” I don’t think God changed His name. The Epistle to the Hebrews declares that the “Word God speaks is alive, effective, full of power.” In Isaiah it declares, “His Word will not return to Him void, but will accomplish what it was sent to do.” The Holy Spirit is still here carrying out God’s purpose and plan. He is still manifesting and anointing men and women to carry out God’s will in these last days. The great commission is still in effect, which declares that “these signs will follow those who believe.” Jesus’ final words recorded in Matthew 28:20, were, “I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).” (AMPC)
Jesus rightly said to the religious leader, “you loose your ox on the Sabbath, then why should not this daughter of Abraham be set free on the Sabbath.” The Sabbath is set aside as a day of rest. This woman could not be at rest, she was suffering and was in pain. The focus of the religious leader was on the rules that were added to the Word of God. His focus should have been on the people God had placed under his care. Jesus was different, He cared for the sheep. He placed value on the people who are created in the image and likeness of God.
Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” In my dictionary “all” means the whole, not excluding anything. Healing is part of the atonement. It is part of the whole. It is recorded over and over again, that Jesus taught, preached to and healed all who came to Him in faith. In the Book of Acts, there was recorded miracle after miracle after miracle. It’s not that miracles and healing have ceased; it is that many today are preaching and teaching a message that is different from the message that was preached in the early Church. It says in Mark 16, that “God worked with them, confirming the word with signs following.” God confirmed the word taught or preached. If God confirmed the word preached by the early Church, then God will confirm the word preached by the Church today; with signs and wonders following.
If Jesus cared for this woman and healed her, then He will heal you also. God has provided healing for everyone who comes to Him in Faith. There is no record of Jesus ever telling someone, “Sorry, you’re a special case and God can’t heal you.” Jesus took the time to correct the leader of the synagogue because He did not want any unbelief to deter the people from receiving from our Heavenly Father. We must guard our hearts for out if it flows the issues of life. We cannot become displeased with what God is doing. It would be better to just remain silent than to harm a child of the Most High God.
Remember, never give up and never quit. God is on your side and He is with you always till the end of the age. God’s will is for you to be made whole. Sometimes it is difficult, but we must humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will exalt us in due time. Always give the glory and honor to our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessings
