Thou Art Loosed 10
Luke 13:16 KJV
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
This verse reveals two things:
First, Jesus calls this woman a Daughter of Abraham. She had a covenant with God through the Abrahamic Covenant and she had a right to the blessings outlined in Deuteronomy 28.
Second, Satan hath bound her. Here, Jesus makes it clear that Satan is the author of sickness and disease and God is the healer and deliverer.
There is one word that reveals how God feels about sickness and disease. The word is “ought.” In the English language that word has lost its true meaning. According to Strongs, the word is “dei” in Greek and refers to what is not optional but needful (binding) out of intrinsic necessity or inevitability. Dei describes that which is under the necessity of happening or which must necessarily take place, and conveys a sense of inevitability. It speaks of what is necessary, not optional. Therefore because of what Jesus provided through His death, burial and resurrection, we through faith are in Christ and have a covenant relationship with God and have a right to healing.
Jesus was saying to the leader of the synagogue, since she is a daughter of Abraham and bound by Satan, and she had a covenant relationship, there was no option other than she be loosed from that bodage. Jesus was reprimanding the synagogue leader because it did not matter what day it was; the Sabbath, or one of the other days of the week, she must be released from this spirit of infirmity. The synagogue leader had 18 years to get her delivered and had not lifted a finger to deliver her. Jesus said not one more minute will pass. She must be healed. There was no option. If Jesus thought there was no option but healing for this woman, then under the New Covenant, there is no option other than total freedom from all sickness and disease for all those who believe.
Now, look at Psalm 103:3 KJV, talking about God, “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases.” This Psalm should take on a richer meaning now. David was blessing God because he realized there was no option. David was speaking about his covenant rights. They were not reciprocal. God on His own forgives our sins, and heals us of all, or every one of our diseases, not because we deserve it, but because God loves us and wants us to have His best. And to guarantee we are able to walk in these promises, He sent Jesus to pay the price for our freedom and give us His very own life abundantly.
Now look at Galatians 3:13-14 KJV,
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
The word “might come” in the Greek means to cause to be, come into being, or be fulfilled. Through faith we partake of this promise and receive the blessings of Abraham which includes health and wholeness.
As a whole Christians have become too passive when dealing with sickness. First, we should never attribute sickness as coming from God. Second, we should resist sickness and disease as James said in his Epistle, “submit to God, resist the Devil, (or sickness and disease), and he, (or it) will flee from you.” (parentheses added by the writer) When Jesus saw that Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with a fever, He did not pat her on the arm and say, “Now, now, I wish there was something I can do. You know, this is your cross you just have to bear.” NO! He rebuked the fever and it left her. Jesus got right over her. Or you could say, He got in her face and forcibly instructed and directed that fever to go. Jesus was very direct and forceful. Rebuke means to forbid. Jesus forbade it to stay, and as a necessity it had to flee. The fever had no option. It declares in 1 John, “As He is so are we in this world.” Therefore, if Jesus could speak to fevers, sickness, disease and command evil spirits to go, then in Christ we have the same authority to speak to those things and they must obey.
If you or someone you know is sick in their body, stop and take authority over it in the Name of Jesus. Command it to flee, call healing and wholeness into being in the Name of Jesus. Now begin to give God all the praise, the glory and thanks for delivering you.
Blessings
